Top-Down images of the ED galaxy
Greetings fellow expeditioners Smile

Finwen and I have been busy during the holidyas - stiching and streching a large amount of screenshots into a composite image of the entire ED galaxy. Top-down view. No shadows.

Please enjoy Smile

RE: Top-Down images of the ED galaxy
Looks great.
Will you be adding an overlay with the name of major features (e.g. various arms of the galaxy, major nebulae, etc)

RE: Top-Down images of the ED galaxy
Added a version with grid and coordinates to OP.

Adding the names of the arms and major regions would be the obvious next thing.

It will be there... but don´t know when Wink

Nice work, guys - we have great talent in this group Smile

Corbin - as a side note, will you be creating more maps for the Sag-Car Expedition for planning and to chart our POI discoveries? No pressure, just wondering if you will have the time.

I am not sure what to do regarding that series of maps...

Here is my thoughts:

Basically, we now have a much better foundation to make maps from. The maps above are just the scaled down versions. The full composite image of the galaxy is a mindblowing 16000x18000 pixels!
But this still gives "only" a resolution of 5LY / pixel (or 200 pixels per 1000 LYs).

As a comparison the present maps for the Sag-Car mission have a resolution 2.5LY / pixel (or 400 pixels per 1000 LYs).

So, the Sag-Car maps are more detailed, but they can´t mesh together with each other or with other maps.

But, if we divide the entire composite map of the galaxy like this...
... we get 25 equal segments of 3200x3600 pixels.

This is an example of how one of these segments with a grid and a few POIs would look:

So, as you see - not quite as detailed as the Sag-Car maps. But the enticing prospect is that all of these will be able to be seamlessly added together for an entire, detailed map of the galaxy...

So basically Im considering switching to this map series instead, and add our POIs to them - rather than doing more of the specialized maps for the Sag-Car mission.

Input and ideas are as allways very welcome!

Until I find out what Ill do, you could use the two overview maps I´ve made for planning Smile

As mentioned in another thread, I got myself a pair of Thrustmaster MFDs and these will look great as background for the MFD!

Oh cool, you got them - are they set up yet, and if so how do you find playing with them?
