August 15th event: Getting IGER involved in the August Exodus
UPDATE: We have now made an official announcement of the event on the 15th: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread...-at-Jaques

If you want to take part please sign up in this thread and state:
  • CMDR name
  • Ship type
  • If you will be helping with the cargo transfer at Kippax (basically jettisoning Computer Components and agricultural produce for other ships to scoop up)
  • If you will join the August Exodus at Kippax and fly with them all the way out to Jacques (we need a ship carrying IGER technicians...)
  • If you will be at the event shooting video of it for future use.

---------------------------------------------------------

If any XBox players would like to take part in this event, please let us know!

---------------------------------------------------------

Pitch for August Exodus Pilots (from Erimus): Taking 1 tonne of Computer Components from IGER technicians outside Kippax Ring gets you an invite to become a Colonia Scout on the Colonia discord server (link).

---------------------------------------------------------

List of participants (still open for more):

FGE pilots joining convoy 2 at Kippax:
- remember to also signup at the main thread.

FGE pilots taking part in the event at Kippax only:

Cinnabar (my alt)
Bosko
Slam-Dunk

Meetup time:

On the 15th of August we will be standing by from 19.00 IGT outside Kippax Ring. The pilots from convoy 2 are due to arrive sometime before 19.30 IGT.

Private group:

Convoy 2 organizers ask that we do this event in the KAMZEL group, as they report having gotten som unwanted attention.

Please apply for membership in KAMZEL group if you do not have that allready.
For this reason I need to have your commander name if it is different from your forum name.
Also if you are using an alt CMDR account for this!

(So I can send word to Kamzel to accept you into the group).

Discord communications:

We will be using a channel on the August Exodus discord server for communication with the pilots from the convoy.
Discord link: https://discord.gg/rMFJJ4z

We now have a dedicated channel for the event that will not be open to others than us and those select pilots from the August Exodus who will be taking part in the event.

So after joining the discord server, please send a direct message to Jonas Treesong and ask to be allowed access to the "Kippax Ring Rendezvous" voice channel.

----------------------------------------------------------

Original pitch:

Sham Gaz and members of the Google+ exploration community is organizing a great storyline event called the August Exodus.

It is being promoted on the FD forums by Erimus and is beginning to draw some attention. With the launch of the community goal by FD to take materials out to Jaques, the first convoy set of early a few days ago.

The second convoy is due for departure from the Ocshooit system on August 15th at 20 IGT.

I have made arrangements with the convoy organizers that a portion of the fleet could make a rendesvouz at Kippax Ring shortly after departure (it is only 77 LY from main departure point). They are open to the idea that we integrate IGER into the story of the exodus, but we need to come up with some storyline and/or gameplay elements to add. Also we need som FGE members to be able to take part in the event on the 15th.

Here is the latest communiqe from Sham Gaz:
Quote:- We propose a seat limit of 10 pilots from convoy 2. The hassle of bringing in a fleet of between 50 and 100 commanders in one instance is considerable. Convoy 2 will just have completed its launch and repeating the whole thing again with all the instancing issues will be a game killer for all.

- We need some formal announcement by you guys, which I will post as an announcement on our Discord. The first 10 commanders that indicate their interest to me will get to make the detour.

- We need something more than just the meetup at your station. To give it some meat. Maybe you guys have a research programme running and we need to pick up canisters of specialised / classified research equipment to be deployed at a location near Jaques. You guys can shoot some cool videos of the exchange and the explorers can be on their merry way to Jaques. This way there's actually some game play involved other than flying around and looking at eachother's ships

At this point we need your input of ideas on how to make a fun event out of this on the 15th, how to announce it / integrate it into IGER and Jaques storyline - and we also REALLY need someone to step forward and commit to being there on the 15th of august in order for the convoy to have som FGE / IGER representatives to meet and interact with.

RE: Getting IGER involved in the August Exodus
Hey, I am currently waiting in the bubble for the mission to Jacques, enroute to a longer range exploration mission. So I am happy to commit to being available on the 15th, but only from about 7pm BST, if that helps.

Either way I'm looking forward to taking part in whatever we do organise!

Excellent. When you say "from about 7pm BST" does that mean you will still be able to be there when the convoy arrives at around 20 IGT (9pm BST (I think...)).

Wishblend proposed that we (among other things) could donate agricultural products to take out to Jaques - since Kippax Ring is orbiting the only major agricultural world in this area of space.

RE: Getting IGER involved in the August Exodus
Yea I'll keep the entire evening free. I can be in game from 6pm IGT/GMT, so I can be about at that time

RE: Getting IGER involved in the August Exodus
I may be able to get back from the first convoy by then. I am flying an ImpClip and I have almost 20 LY when empty.

I would be guessing this is not a CG related event, so I would suggest that we look into something that can be supplied that is not commonly available. IGER's stock in trade, information, is not really applicable to the currently evolving story line, but maybe we could cobb up a scenario about supplying a current database and computers to reactivate Universal Cartographics on the station.

That would help to progress the functionality of the facility, and would be in keeping with our Caretakers of Knowledge role.

I like that. Very writable, and as you say it can push for the thing I assume most explorer's would like most: a place to dump valuable exploration data on the way home!

RE: Getting IGER involved in the August Exodus
Thats really good suggestions!

I have been asked to get back to the organizers of convoy 2 today with our ideas…

So currently it looks like a combination of two things:
1) A donation of food and other supplies from the garden world of Magellan (we could do an in game transfer of these just outside the station - photo op of Kippax Ring with Magellan in the back ground while agricultural supplies are being scooped by convoy ships).

2) Supplying a current database and computers to reactivate Universal Cartographics on the station.
Any ideas on how this could be represented by an in-game action? (Is it simply some of us flying out there with the convoy? - It could also be by having some passenger type ship appear and then we say it is laden with IGER technicians and scientist…)

RE: Getting IGER involved in the August Exodus
There is a commodity called, Computer Components (CC).

I like the idea of combining maybe an Orca and a shipment of CC with the food run.

RE: Getting IGER involved in the August Exodus
I have an alt at Kippax, but would prefer to spend my limited playtime on getting my main character home from Beagle Point. Is anyone up to flying an Orca out to Jaques?

My alt will be there on the 15th though - taking part in the food and computer runs and probably flying with the convoy for part of the way.

RE: Getting IGER involved in the August Exodus
I guess our next thing would be to write up a GalNet report for our activity.

Today, in HIP 72043 at Kippax Ring, a spokeswoman for the Institute for Galactic Exploration and Research, or IGER, announced that the Institute would be shipping a new computer system to Jacques Station. Technicians and hardware will be traveling with the second wave of the August Exodus.

The network will contain all of the astrogation data compiled to date. Unrestricted access to the information is meant to empower the exploration community by providing a hub of operations.
